From a full camera roll to a useful photo collection
Organize first, preserve the originals, then make a delivery copy for the audience.
When this route helps
This route separates four jobs that are often mixed together: finding a photograph, preserving it independently, choosing its format and sharing it. An album helps selection but is not a backup. A JPEG can help a recipient but is not necessarily the original you want in an archive. Work through the jobs in that order to avoid losing information during a seemingly simple cleanup.
- 01
Build a selection with a purpose
Create a shortlist for the actual project. Remove weak candidates from the album without confusing membership with deletion from the library. Keep the organizing structure small enough that you can explain what each album is for.
Organize Photos with albums that answer real questionsBefore you move on: The selection answers a real question, such as which pictures will be printed.
- 02
Keep an independent original set
Export a representative sample using the appropriate original workflow and inspect the files. Include the components of motion photos where needed. Scale the export only after you know what it produces and where it is stored.
Make a photo archive you can open without PhotosBefore you move on: You can open the archived sample independently of the synchronized library.
- 03
Make the delivery format fit the destination
Read the recipient or upload requirements. Create a compatible copy when necessary instead of renaming extensions or converting the whole library. Keep source and delivery folders distinct.
Choose HEIF or JPEG for the job, not for a file-extension argumentBefore you move on: The receiving app or service opens the chosen file without an unintended conversion.
- 04
Choose what happens to motion and sound
Decide whether the recipient needs a still, a video or a supported Live Photo. Play the output and check the audio as well as the image. Motion is a content decision, not merely a file-transfer detail.
Share a Live Photo without accidentally losing the momentBefore you move on: The received representation contains the part of the moment you intended to share.
Bring the steps together
Review location information and the visible scene before a public share. Keep the original collection separate from temporary social or print copies.
